Have you ever wondered what makes people decide to finally join an MLM company?
This is a really important question and one that you should know the answer to if you’re ever going to make it big in the industry.
Most people spend so much time PITCHING and SELLING prospects that they forget what the industry is all about. What makes this industry so different than any other industry is that it is all about the community and the relationships.
For sales people, this is hard to wrap their minds around. They see cases of products and all they are interested in doing is selling them. Once they recruit a new rep and bring them into their organization they are already looking for the next BIG FISH – never realizing that the REAL GOLD is inside the network of that NEW REP that just enrolled.
But what makes people join an MLM in the first place? Get the inside scoop in this blog post.
What Makes People Join An MLM Company Anyway?
If you want to know what makes a person tick and why they are looking for an opportunity, why not ASK THEM? It makes sense don’t you think? There is no better person to tell you what they are looking for, or what’s most important to them…or why they would even be looking for an opportunity in the first place…THAN YOUR PROSPECT!
Don’t you think?
The professional business builder doesn’t start off by pitching their company or their products. In fact, if they are asked
“So what makes your company different?” They take control of the conversation by asking a question immediately.
“That’s a really good question _____________, and I’m happy to answer it, but do you mind if I ask you a few questions first?
Where most people go wrong in the industry is that as soon as they get a prospect on the phone, they fail to ever build rapport, or even ask the prospect any fact finding questions…
“Just out of curiosity…_______________
If everything was perfect, and you found the right company…what exactly would you be looking for in a company? What’s most important to you?
What companies have you been involved with in the past?
What was your level of success with those companies?
Did you ever reach the type of income that you were looking for?
What do you attribute that to?
What do you feel you could have done differently to get you the results you were looking for?
If you can find out this information about your prospects, I GUARANTEE you that your recruiting numbers will increase dramatically.
IT’S IMPORTANT TO KNOW THAT IT’S NOT ALWAYS ABOUT THE MONEY!
You see… most newbie marketers think that MLM is all about the money. They get enamored by the $50,000 monthly check and they start out on a recruiting frenzy throwing everything up against the wall and trying to make it stick.
In fact the only question these people ever ask other marketers is “How much money are you making?”
It’s important to know that people get involved in Network Marketing for a variety of reasons. Some of these may include:
1. They want to be part of something (A lot of people like the social aspect of belonging to a team, club, or association)
2. They want to make a difference in the world, or give back in some way. (Some do it for charitable causes)
3. They want to better their leadership skills and improve in the area of personal development
4. They want to improve their marketing skills.
5. They want to help other people succeed in life (Motivation or Inspiration).
6. They want to be their own boss and work whenever they want (either part time or full time).
7. They’ve had a profound experience with the company’s products and want to share that experience
8. They want to make more money – in some cases LOTS more money.
The reason that I put #8 Wanting to make more money – in some cases LOTS more money – at the bottom of the list, was not because it’s the least important, it’s to help you understand that people get into the industry for more reasons than just the money.
Remember that Network Marketing is a relationship building business – finding out what’s most important to your prospect and then showing them how your company, product or service can be part of that solution. The statement that people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care – is very true.
If you want to become a top recruiter, it’s important to understand this before you end up losing some really great people simply because you didn’t ask the right questions. The questions where you get a chance to get to know what is inside a person’s mind and what is inside their heart.
Understanding What’s Most Important To Your Prospects.
If you want to find out more about your prospect ask them this.
“So tell me…What made you get involved with the Network Marketing Industry? What do you like best about it? What do you like least about it?
Let the person talk as long as they want. TAKE LOTS OF NOTES.
Remember that it takes 5 to 12 connections/exposures to enroll a person into an MLM company (stats taken directly from the Direct Seller’s Association). It rarely happens on the first exposure. So don’t try and rush closing your new business partners. The more you find out about them, the easier it will be to bring them on board your team.
